The Case for a “Plus One”

April 11, 20232 min read

Planning your wedding and dreaming of including your dog in the festivities? Then get a professional “plus one” who will give your furry guest of honour a leg up in handling the excitement and merry chaos of your special day!

It’s awesome to see more wedding venues becoming dog-friendly. After all, your wedding is a celebration of your love - and few friends or family have more love to give than your pup! There are lots of ways to include your dog in your big day, ranging from decor to photos to ringbearer duties. But before you order that bowtie or plan that shoot, it’s important to ask: how can you make this day as enjoyable for your dog as it will be for you?

Remember: the sights, sounds, smells, and surroundings of a wedding can be overwhelming for dogs - even the most even-keeled ones! Being in an unfamiliar space where their humans are (justifiably) otherwise occupied for much of the day can cause your dog to become dysregulated, especially if they tend to experience anxiety or nervousness. Prioritizing your dog’s wellbeing at your wedding requires a fair amount of planning and commitment - and that’s where Tails Down the Aisle comes in.

Our founder, Tasha Shaw-Verbic, is a multi-certified dog trainer whose force-free, reward-based approach helps dogs find their calm. She leveraged her 6 years’ experience as an event planner to design packages that ensure that your dog gets the attention, enrichment, space, and support they need to be their best self at your wedding. We contribute to the planning/coordination, equip you with some tools to help your dog prepare, and provide a written schedule so you know where your dog will be and when. On the day of, we mix quiet time with serotonin-boosting activities to fill their cup until it’s their time to shine. We even offer after-care so you can celebrate into the wee hours worry-free! Whatever you have dreamed up for your dog-inclusive wedding, we will help turn that into a reality.

A final thought: we know that sometimes dogs and weddings just don’t mix - and that’s okay! If you decide upon further reflection that your dog would be happier at your accommodations in the County, we do offer petsetting services! And if you prefer to leave them at home with their regular petsitter, please don’t take that as a sign of failure on anyone’s part. Instead, be proud of yourself for making decisions that put your dog’s wellbeing first! And maybe book a photoshoot at your dog’s favourite place afterward so you can still get those pawsitively adorable wedding photos done :)
